Thoughts on the musical talent of Jim Kennedy
As a child I was raised until the age of 8, sporadically in the home of Granddad and Grandmother's home in Rankin and Seminole, Texas. Although we did not practice instrumental music in the church service, Granddad played church songs on the piano a lot. He loved the sound of music and it was continual in the background of the house. I loved the songs that he played such as Anywhere with Jesus or The Old Rugged Cross. He led singing on many Sundays at the church building which we never missed, (mostly because he would not allow it.)
At family reunion we always sing his song that he wrote which was what he truly believed in and lived. Connie (Moore) Fowler, 2020

He Died for Me and You
Jim wrote this song in 1964 and Mary Jo copyrighted it in 1968. It was arranged by his son Weldon. This song was the very essence of the life and beliefs of Jim Kennedy. It is sung at all Kennedy gatherings.

Thinking back, I recall that Dad did not want me to major in music. Even though he liked music a great deal, he had a poor opinion of “musicians” generally. It is somewhat ironic that the thing that I did that perhaps pleased him most was to take his song “He Died for You and Me” and arrange it for him. It was special to be able to hear it sung at his funeral.
